Spice of the Month; Peppermint
Peppermint tea is a favorite all over the world.  It has a strong effect on the digestive system and will help control diarrhea, and it relieves indigestion.
Headache Aid: Peppermint tea helps with headaches especially those emanating from the digestive system.
Muscle spasms or cramps: Drink peppermint tea or apply it externally as a wet mash to the area of pain.   The camphorous principles in peppermint helps to relieve pain.
Sinus: Drinking lots of peppermint tea and applying  a large warm peppermint pack to the sinus area is quite effective.
Coughs, Bronchitis, and Asthma: Use frequent doses (1 teaspoon) of peppermint tea or 8 to 10 drops of the essence of peppermint in a cup of boiling water.
Nausea: Reduce a feeling of nausea with a cup of hot aromatic peppermint tea.  You may add a pinch of basil and/or ginger.

Spice of the Month; Thyme
Thyme is a low, creeping and lawn-forming herb with little reddish blossoms and has an intense, pleasant smell.
  • Used as a tea, it will refresh the lungs, remove indigestion, flatulence, liver and splenetic complaints and acts as a diuretic.  the usual formula for tea is 1 teaspoon of the herb to 1 cup of boiling water steeped for a few minutes.  Bruise the leaves to release the aromatic oil.
  • Thyme is more effective when used with other herbs.  For example, to overcome a budding cold, add thyme to any combination of herbs you use as a cold remedy.  A mixture of Peppermint, elderflower and yarrow would be a great combination to add Thyme to it.
  • Thyme tea has a wide range of medicinal uses such as gastric problems of wind, colic, and even bad breath if it is caused by bad digestion.
  • Thyme is also an antiseptic, a first aid, reduces fever, is useful for headache and is a great insect repellent.
  • For sore throat and post nasal drip, mix honey with thyme tea.  Use a tablespoon several times a day.
  • Thyme tea is helpful in overcoming shortness of breath and elimination of phlegm.
  • Drink cold thyme tea to relieve a headache
  • As a first aid, make a paste of warm moist thyme leaves and apply it to the skin to relieve the pain of an abscess, boil, or swelling.  make a strong thyme tea (one handful of thyme to a pint of boiling water), steep, dip in a folded cloth, apply the thyme compress to the abscess, boil or swellings.  Repeat as often as necessary.
  • Mix thyme with lavender to make a anti moth concoction.
  • Crush thyme, add to boiling water, steep and strain to use for baths, compresses, or directly apply to the body for sprains and bruises.
