True yoga isn't just a workout. It is an ancient Indian philosophy espousing an eight-limbed approach to conscious living:
First Limb: Yama refers to ethical standards.
Second Limb: Niyama refers to self discipline and spiritual observances.
Third Limb: Asana is the postures we practice.
Fourth Limb: Pranayama is Breath Control: conscious awareness of breath; the life force that both energizes and relaxes the body. The term is derived from the Sanskrit, prana, meaning "life force," and ayama, meaning "extension." As we breathe with awareness, we find a rhythm practicing the poses which leads to relaxing the mind for meditation.
Next week, I will have a short explanation of the fifth of the eight limbs.

I have received a request to start offering meditation on Tuesdays immediately after yoga. Please let me know if you would participate. I will have a basket for donations to Our House in lieu of a fee.
