This week's yoga, July and Aug. calendar, Herb/Spice of the Month: marigold, reminders, and more

Due to lack of interest, we will have meditation only on Wed., Aug. 12 after yoga.

Do yourself a favor and spend about 10 minutes after yoga to meditate; it's the best time since your mind is clear and calm.

Spice of the Month; Marigold (Calendula Officinalis)
Yes, the beautiful flowers offer medicinal benefits too:
-Marigold infusion or marigold petal ointment can be used to soothe chapped hands and may be used in infusion form in the baths to reduce body scars, soothe varicose veins and help control thread veins on the face.
-Marigold lotion heals painful lesions caused by dry eczema.
-For inflammation, dip a compress cloth into a strong marigold tea combined with equal parts of apple cider vinegar.  Apply it to the inflamed area and renew it when hot.
-Use marigold petals steeped in vinegar for knee sprains.  Alternatively, you may make a lotion with  milk.  Simmer a dozen head or so of marigolds in 2 cups of milk, steep, strain and apply.
-Use marigold lotion to heal wounds.  Alternatively, add a few drops of tincture of marigold to a cup or more of boiled water in treating cuts, bruises and even open wounds.  Keep the dressing wet.
- Add marigold petals to salads or soups for strengthening and comfort of heart.
- Mix juice of marigold petals with vinegar  and rub on gums and teeth to alleviate toothache.  Rub the same mixture to forehead to release headaches.
-Marigolds are excellent "companion Plants".  Plant them in different parts of garden to discourage many insect pests.
Marigold is available in dried form, as tincture, pressed juice, ointment or lotion.
