Spice of the Month; Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne Pepper's official name is Capsicum which is derived from Greek word "to bite".  Its name implies that it is pungent and biting to the tongue
and therefore, it is to be used in small amounts.  However, once it is eaten it is benign and gentle within the body and it is considered to be a reliable restorative and internal stimulant. 
Having said that, here are a few of its uses:

Digestive Aid: Add a tiny pinch to cooked or raw foods or add a dash to any hot soup or hot tea.
Nutrient Source: Cayenne pepper is a source of vitamin C.   Add 1/4 of a teaspoon cayenne to one quart of unsweetened grape juice.   Sip throughout the day a little bit at a time to stimulate your energy level.
Sore throat: Make a sherry gargle by adding a little bit of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and cayenne pepper to 1/4 cup of sherry.
Antiflu: grind together 2 teaspoons of cayenne pepper with 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt to form a paste.  Add 1 cup of boiling water and 1 cup of apple cider vinegar.   Most adults can take between a teaspoon ot a table spoon every half hour.  If it is too strong, dilute it with water.
Liniment: Mix alcohol or apple cider vinegar with peppermint leaves, a few springs of wormwood, rosemary leaves and a few dashes of cayenne pepper.   Steep the preparation in the sun, turning it everyday for a week or so.  Strain off the herbs before applying to skin to relieve pain.
Toothache: If one is willing to deal with the burning sensation, a few grains of cayenne will act as a temporary pain alleviator until you get to your dentist.
